Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith. Hebrews 13:7
The author of Hebrews shifts focus in the middle of chapter 13 to address a reality for the church he is writing to: leadership. There were leaders in the midst of the church who were sharing God's Word with them and helping them to live as faithful followers of Jesus. This reality of having leaders bears similarity with other environments in our lives; we are rarely autonomous in an absolute degree. Therefore, it serves us well to remember those leaders and see the ways that they are living their faith in our midst. As we remember, we are further encouraged to obey and pray for those leaders. Doing so benefits both the leader and the follower as each pursue Christ in their lives.
