At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “So who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Matthew 18:1

This is an interesting question.  The disciples were, unfortunately, all too accustomed to competing for status, even as they walked with Christ in ministry.  Quite often, Jesus turns their pursuit for status of recognition upside down in a way that they are corrected for their perspective about the kingdom of God. However, this question provides Jesus with an opportunity to respond with the priorities and needed qualities for any who would participate in the kingdom.

This week, we see the opening elements of Jesus' response, where he notes that the greatest in the kingdom will humble themselves like a child.
