O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord…. Isaiah 2:5
We have entered the Christian season of Advent; a time marked with an anticipation of the arrival of Jesus Christ into the world. The Advent season looks behind us, recalling the fulfilled promise of the Messiah to come into the world to save and redeem fallen and broken humanity. But this season also calls us to look ahead of us, anticipating the yet-to-be fulfilled promise of the Risen Messiah to return into the world to conclusively establish the Kingdom of God.
So this is a time of waiting. We wait to see the hope that we have in Christ to be fulfilled in its fullest and more complete way. We join with the people of God in previous times in history who looked ahead, responding to the invitation to “walk in the light of the Lord.” Yet, this hope and light can seem distant and dim. This week’s text helps us to see what we are able to be hopeful in and how we proceed in the Lord’s light.
