“Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 4:17
Jesus is revealed to be the promised Saviour, but in this unveiling of his character and working, we see new realities coming into being as well. Following his baptism and temptation, Jesus resides in a specific area as a way of fulfilling a promise in the Scriptures. “The people who live in darkness have seen a great light.” This light is Jesus himself, but this is also the light of what he is bringing into the world: the Kingdom of God. From this point on, Jesus begins to preach to others that they should turn from their way of living to take notice of the kingdom that has come near to them. As God’s kingdom has come near to you and I, we must also consider our response to this light that Jesus reveals to us.
