Hebrews 5:11-6:12

Solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil. Hebrews 5:14

In our text this week, the author of Hebrews begins a call for his readers to move towards maturity in their faith. This maturity comes out of the revelation of who Jesus is and the ways that he is greater than all things. The problem was that the author identifies that his readers are too lazy to attend to the message that he is wanting to give. They keep going back to the milk: the basic, elementary truths about Jesus. So, extending from the ideas that have been already spoken against (hardening one's heart, responding to the voice of God), we are invited to seek maturity in Christ because it will not accomplish anything if we just continue to reacquaint ourselves with basic teachings about Jesus. We are to mature and continue in a growing assurance of our faith in him.
