For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Hebrews 7:26
Our text this week comes back to the idea that Jesus remains our great and merciful high priest; an agent or servant of God's promise that he would save his people who have sinned and who need a Saviour. These words elaborate on the kind of Saviour that we need. One who is set apart from all other would-be 'messiahs'; one who carries no blame towards God or others; one who has not been tainted by sin or the influence of evil; one who stands apart from sinful people; one who has been approved by God and exalted into the heavens.
While this is the priest that we need, we can sometimes look to rely on something or someone else for the salvation that we need. This week's passage reshapes and reminds us where our reliance needs to rest.
