“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead” (Colossians 1:15,18)
We concluded our time in Colossians last Sunday with the wonderful truth that the faithful in Christ are those people who have been “rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of the Son [who God] loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Col. 1:13-14).
Who is this Son that God loves and accomplishes this redemption through? Who is this Son that transfers us out of the domain of darkness and provides the forgiveness of our sins? The quick answer is, “Jesus”, but we are provided with qualifying responses about who Jesus is that gives us assurance of his character and work.
