Hebrews 12:3-13

No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

The challenges and difficulties that we experience as followers of Jesus can wear us down. They can make us discouraged and question if God even loves us. From this perspective, a Christian may be tempted to find ways to avoid suffering and, if things become even more difficult, tempted even to abandon the faith. However, the author of Hebrews is aiming to encourage his readers into a perspective that the suffering they endure produces something precious in their lives and confirms their heritage a children of God. Our suffering means something to God and for us.
