Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28–29
Our text this week focusses on the differences between the oppressive feeling old covenant and the liberating experience of the new covenant. We no longer come to Mount Sinai where our very lives hang in the balance between our ability to do right and wrong. Instead, we arrive to Mount Zion, the place where God has already mediated our forgiveness to Jesus Christ. The author of Hebrews notes that since we receive such a kingdom that cannot be shaken anymore by the effects of sin, we are to be thankful and serve God acceptably.
